About the Topic
The Association of Space Explorers (ASE) is an international organization of over 320 astronauts, cosmonauts, and scientists from 33 nations who have flown in space. Founded in 1985, ASE's mission is to provide a forum for professional dialogue among individuals who have flown in space, support space science and exploration for the benefit of all, promote education in science and engineering, foster greater environmental awareness, and encourage international cooperation in the human exploration of space.
The ASE is holding their Planetary Congress at the Museum of Flight in Seattle September 14-20. This is only the third Congress held in the United States since the ASE's inception. The Museum of Flight has graciously arranged for two of its members to speak at our SAMPE meeting.

July Crab Feed
The weather cooperated once again for our crab feed at Marci and Pete George's home on Lake Tapps. In addition to great food (crab, clams, salmon, shrimp) and company, John Moser provided speed boat rides. In addition to thanking Pete, Marci and John we also thank those that helped with arrangements, preparations, cooking and/or clean up including Barry VanWest, Sam Tucker, Ryan Toivola, Chris Sahagun, Anthony Nguyen, Karl Nelson, Dave Jensen, Sylvester Hill, Jeff Gavin, Brian Flinn, Brian Clark, Geoff Butler, and Arlene Brown. Rosemary and Don Chamberlain who have have been our chefs for many years were able to attend after all so were there to provide advice.

Congratulations!!
We congratulate Bill Avery for progressing to International President of SAMPE! His support at both the Chapter and International level has been invaluable.
We would also like to congratulate another long time member, Al Miller, who was presented with the Medal of Excellence in Composite Materials on June 6th by the University of Delaware. Dr. Miller is Boeing Director of Technology Integration for the 787 Dreamliner and a long-time SAMPE member. We had fantastic attendance in 2004 when Al was our PSME key note speaker.
