About the Topic
Ferrari is an Italian car manufacturer, well known for the distinctiveness, elegance and performance of its luxury products. Since it has been in operation, Ferrari has had a production division “Gestione Commerciale”, focusing on the production of commercial street cars and a racing division, Gestione Sportiva, which has focused its efforts in Formula 1.
Formula 1 is a racing championship for open wheel cars manufactured by different teams (McLaren, Williams, Toyota, BMW, Honda etc) and competing on the most famous racing tracks in the world.
Ferrari Formula 1 Team is the only team that has been always involved in the development and fabrication of both the car chassis and engine. It has also been one of the most successful teams in the history of Formula 1.
This presentation focuses on the description of my experience as production leader of the manufacturing team in charge of the fabrication of the composite suspensions during the 2003 and 2004 F1 racing seasons. Specifically I will describe the “speed” characterizing this production environment and the challenges I faced during this experience.
About the Speaker
Eddy Depase was born in Italy but was raised as a child in the US. After moving back to Italy with his family in the mid 80s and after attending high school, Eddy enrolled at the University of Padua, where he earned a degree in 2000 in Chemical Engineering. After graduation, he moved back to the United States to attend Graduate School at the University of Washington, researching resin infusion composite systems for aerospace applications. In 2003 Eddy moved back to Maranello, Italy, where he worked for Ferrari Formula 1 during the 2003 &2004 racing seasons, when Michael Schumacher was the lead driver of the team.
In 2004, once again, he moved back to Seattle, where he is currently working for Boeing Materials & Processes Technology. Since then he has been involved in the manufacturing development of different composite fuselage components for the 787. He is currently pursuing an MBA at the University of Washington.
